NewMexicoConservativeNews.com reports that Conservative Radio Host Eddy Aragon has announced his intention to challenge Congressional Representation Gabe Vasquez in New Mexico's 2nd Congressional District.
Vasquez is a 2 term congressman having beat Yvette Herrell 2 consecutive times. The competitive 2nd Congressional District encompasses much of southern New Mexico, part of oil country in eastern New Mexico and reaches north into Albuquerque's South Valley.
Aragon, 50, has never held public office, but this is not his first political campaign. He ran for the CD1 seat held by Rep. Melanie Stansbury, D-N.M., in 2021 and has previously run for Albuquerque mayor. Aragon is giving himself more time to build a full campaign than in the past, he said.
Eddy Aragon is the founder and CEO of KIVA-AM 1600 in Albuquerque and, for the past 14 years, the award-winning host of “The Rock of Talk” conservative news/talk radio show. He has been a frequent contributor on FOX News, the Sean Hannity Show and CNN, and has been interviewed on more than 40 radio stations throughout the country.
Eddy grew up on the west side of Albuquerque in New Mexico’s second congressional district (NM-2). His mother also grew up in NM-2, in Albuquerque’s South Valley. Eddy is a proud eleventh-generation New Mexican.
Eddy holds degrees in economics and political science from the University of New Mexico. For as long as he can remember, he has wanted to serve the people of his home state.
Aragon plans to focus his campaign on crime, New Mexico's economy and education.
"We need more privatization of education. I think the approach that's being taken at the national level is important. We don't want to do without the money, but we definitely want to do without the bureaucracy," Aragon said.
Aragon thinks President Donald Trump has been widely misunderstood. "I would absolutely consider his first 100 days to be a success, not a failure," Aragon said. But he said he would oppose Medicare or Medicaid cuts being considered in the Republican-led House as part of Trump's tax package.
