Keys in Hand, the Process to Open the Fun Center begins in Alamogordo beginning the partnership of the Mescalero Apache Tribe and the City of Alamogordo. The Inn of the Mountain Gods Resort & Casino and the City of Alamogordo announced they finalized the management agreement with the City of Alamogordo to operate the Rocket City Family Fun Center.
This significant collaboration marks a new chapter in the long-standing relationship between the Mescalero Apache Tribe and the City of Alamogordo, as both parties work together to revitalize a key recreational asset for the region.
During the city commissioner meeting held on April 8, 2025, key figures from both the Mescalero Apache Tribe and the City of Alamogordo expressed their support and optimism for the partnership.
“We’re honored to lead the relaunch of Rocket City and share our hospitality expertise with Alamogordo,” said Thora Padilla, President of the Mescalero Apache Tribe
“This is an exciting opportunity to bring a fun, high-quality experience to the community,” added Frizzell J. Frizzell Jr., COO of the Inn of the Mountain Gods Resort & Casino. During the presentation at the city commissioner’s meeting, Frizzell Jr. highlighted key aspects of the proposal, including the innovative design and operational plans for Rocket City
The presentation showcased as previously reported by AlamogordoTownNews.org and KALHRadio.org explained the resort’s commitment to creating a family friendly environment with state-of-the-art facilities and attractions. The proposal also emphasized the economic benefits and job opportunities that Rocket City would bring to the community, further strengthening the partnership between the Mescalero Apache Tribe and the City of Alamogordo.
Mayor Susan Payne stated, “We’re thrilled to welcome IMG as our partner and look forward to the energy they’ll bring to Rocket City.”
“Rocket City has the potential to become a signature family destination for our region,” said Stephanie Hernandez, Acting City Manager of Alamogordo who diligently worked with tribal leadership to make this partnership a reality in a spirit of cooperation and mutual collaboration.
The City of Alamogordo granted IMG access to the facility starting May 5, 2025. IMG’s team is beginning preparations immediately, working diligently to open up with a quality product that meets the high standards expected from both the city and the Tribe.

Agree about the importance of this current voting session. As an Independent I did consider it an opportunity not to be missed. I do believe my vote counts in NM, and I always vote my conscience, and I have some hopes for some of the close runoffs.

barela complained when senate bill 16 was passed - she was prescient - it would disturb the equilibrium in established party politics. and she was right - it tilted the republican vote out of her control. most excellent; democracy has once again raised it's ugly head....
