Otero Arts Hosts Plein Air Painting Workshop with Anita Louise West, October 17 - 19, 2024

Otero Arts proudly presents 3 days of outdoor painting on October 17 to 19th 2024, in historic and picturesque locations in Southern New Mexico with Santa Fe instructor Anita Louise West.

Ms. Anita Louise West has had a passion for painting from an early age. She graduated with a BA in Art from Missouri University. Ms. West went on to study at the Kansas City Art Institute on scholarship and earned a teaching certificate at the graduate level at UMKC. Teaching in public schools in Kansas, California and Texas, she continued to study and paint using oil, watercolor, acrylic and pastel.

Landscape painting on location helps to simplify the subject matter and paint without hesitation, and study the changing conditions of weather and light outdoors.

Anita’s fluency in all media and subject matter helps facilitate her students’ growth.

Having been a professional painter and business owner since 1989, Anita moved to Santa Fe, NM in 1993 where she was introduced to the national art world. She painted and taught workshops throughout the United States as well as Spain, France and Canada.

Returning to her childhood dream of painting in New York in 2007, Anita studied at the Art Students League with Mary Beth Mackenzie, Daniel Greene, Nelson Shanks and Richard Schmid. This experience in the studio helped her appreciate figure and portrait work as well as Plein Air painting. Co-author of Painting the Landscape in Pastel, Ms. West is capable of explaining and simplifying the materials and methods of painting in all media.

SCHEDULE:

OCTOBER THURSDAY 17, FRIDAY 18 & SATURDAY 19, 2024

Each day 10-4 with lunch break. Each day includes a demonstration, discussion and instruction on materials, elements of art, principles of design, painting time with help at the easel and evaluation. In the interest of saving time please consider bringing lunch or snacks as some locations do not have convenient restaurants. The locations might be changed due to weather or other factors. Bring the medium you have and work in the way you prefer. I will demonstrate in pastel and oil.

DAY 1:

Meet at Otero Artspace at 10:00 AM for a demonstration in pastel.

1:30 meet on location at Tularosa and paint on location with individual help at the easel. 3pmevaluation.

Day 2:

Meet at Cloudcroft location. Instruction and oil painting demonstration. Paint on location with help at the easel followed by evaluation.

Day 3:

Meet at Bent church location. Instruction and demonstration. Paint on location with help at the easel followed by evaluation.
