Alamogordo’s A&W Supporting Disabled American Veterans and Free Root Beer Float Day August 6th

Alamogordo has an A & W and Long John Silvers Combo store that could be easily missed on White Sands Blvd in Alamogordo near 1st Street and White Sands.  The business has been around for over 50 years in the same building and location. Though the building is a bit dates the traditions of A& W and its commitment to Veterans and Veterans Causes dates back to the founding of the original store in Lodi, California and a blending of root beer floats and a recognition of veterans.

The tradition of root beer floats and honoring veterans started with a tiny Root Beer Stand. Entrepreneur Roy W. Allen set up shop on the streets of Lodi, California offering a brand new creamy and refreshing drink served in a frosty mug. It was a hot June day, and Allen thought his concoction would be the perfect accompaniment for the parade honoring the return of World War I veterans. His Root Beer was a hit — a unique and tasty, fresh-made blend of herbs, spices, barks, and berries that has remained a symbol of celebration, innocence, and camaraderie ever since.

A lot has happened and changed since those early days, but much remains the same. A store in Alamogordo that combines Long John Silvers with A & W opened almost 50 years ago with many stores around the nation.  They continue to serve their signature made-fresh Root Beer and floats.

In Alamogordo and around the nation on August 6th they will celebrate National Root Beer Float Day,  and be giving away free root beer floats.

They want to honor their company's roots by continuing to provide support for the homecoming of our nations service members especially locally at Holloman, White Sands Missile Range and beyond. The local A&W Restaurant on White Sands on August 6 between 2PM - 8PM is honoring vets and the community by giving away free small root beer floats. As part of the celebration, also from now till  mid August A & W will be collecting donations for DAV (Disabled American Veterans).

Donations may be made at the restaurant directly or by rounding up on an order. Donations of $5.00 or more get special recognition and offers.

Who doesn’t love a good root beer float and we all love our veterans so form now till free root beer day pop over to A & W buy a float and support the DAV, tell the manager Scott Lee that Alamogordo Town News sent you, and pop back by August 6th, 2 pm to 8 pm and get a free root beer float. In Alamogordo we all love free things…and bring the kids!
