Area Fireworks Restrictions and Fourth of July Parade Hosted by AFSA Holloman Chapter 1257
The City of Alamogordo and the surrounding communities have made the decision to not host a Fireworks Show this July 4th, 2024 due to the fire hazards and the extensive exhaustion of area fire fighters due to recent area fire events. The city issued the following release…
“As we approach the Fourth of July and gather to celebrate American Independence, it’s crucial to prioritize safety and exercise responsible behavior when handling fireworks. While certain types of fireworks are permitted within city limits, it’s important to note that aerial fireworks are strictly prohibited in Alamogordo per Ordinance 12-04-010 and Otero County per Ordinance 18-02.
All Alamogordo citizens are highly encouraged to refer to the attached Otero County checklist as a guide to which fireworks are permissible and non-permissible. This guarantees uniformity throughout the city and county while ensuring compliance with local regulations and promotes a safe environment for everyone.
Additionally, we extend our gratitude to the City of Alamogordo Fire, Police, and Utilities departments, who are currently assisting neighboring communities like Ruidoso and Ruidoso Downs during this critical time. Many of our personnel are tirelessly working seven days a week following recent fires and subsequent flooding. The support and caution exercised by Alamogordo and Otero County residents in handling fireworks can further contribute to these efforts.
Let’s celebrate responsibly and prioritize safety this Fourth of July. By using good judgment and taking extreme precautions, we can ensure a safe and enjoyable holiday for all.”
A memo from the county outlines what is permissible for individuals to fire on private property within the city and county. Note no flying fireworks are allowed at this time.
The city and the county leaders invite the public to join the July 4th Parade this year at 10 am down 10th Street and ending on New York Avenue which will also host food and street vendors as an alternative celebration. Many businesses and nonprofits organizations are working extensively this week on floats for the Alamogordo July 4th parade that begins at 10 am. The parade is hosted this year by the AFSA Holloman Chapter 1257. This chapter has been working tirelessly in recent weeks to ensure the parade is a success and in significant community volunteer activities.
Come on out and join the fun July 4th beginning at 10 am.
