Harsh winds were a problem but a team commitment and aggressive performance on the part of the Bear Grass Fire Brigade and other professionals joined together Saturday night into the wee hours on Sunday Morning to contain the Bear Grass Fire in La Luz, Otero County, New Mexico.
An evacuation standby alert has still stands which was issued after the Bear Grass Fire broke out Friday in Otero County per the Tularosa Dispatch Authority.
A spokesman for Otero County Emergency Services says the fire has burned between 5 to 15 acres so far, with 70 percent containment. Acreage estimates will be updated during the daylight hours Sunday.
Residents are on Stand By status for evacuation as an alert affects residents living in the La Luz area between Bear Grass Road and Batte Way, north of Laborcita Canyon Road.
