OTERO COMMUNITY PARTNERS HOST DAY OF HOPE,  SECOND CHANCE JOB FAIR AND PRO BONO LEGAL ASSISTANCE DAY

Otero County residents experiencing homelessness, housing insecurity, trouble finding a job, or needing legal assistance can enjoy a day of food, services, and support from Otero County community organizations on Saturday, November 4, from 10:00 am until 2:00 pm on the 1100 block of New York Avenue.

Day of Hope brings many kinds of services together in one location like medical assistance, phone services, counseling, and veterinary care to name a few. “ The purpose of this event is to provide people with tangible services and resources on the spot,” said Peg Crim, co-founder of 100% Otero.

The Second Chance Job Fair is hosted by New Mexico Workforce Connection and will offer assistance in matching all job seekers to interested employers. Those in attendance will be able to create a resume, apply for jobs, participate in interview preparation, and obtain interview clothing and more.

The 12th Judicial Pro Bono Legal Assistance Day allows attendees to receive free legal assistance and advice from volunteer attorneys. Legal help will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. For information, please email 12thjudicialprobonocommittee@gmail.com

After accessing available community services, job and benefit applications, medical screenings, and legal advice, those who attend can connect with one another and community members while enjoying a meal prepared by Runner’s Refuge.

This is the second year 100% Otero has hosted this event. The Counseling Center’s Mobile Homeless Response Coordinator and 100% Otero Housing Sector Team Co-Chair, Nadia Sikes said, “The Alamogordo community knows how to step up when a need is expressed. We are pleased with the number of organizations and agencies that participated last year and are excited to see the event grow to help more people.”

The mission of 100% Otero is to prevent childhood trauma by supporting families in Otero County. Lisa Yehle, Co-Founder of 100% Otero, said, “It is heartwarming to see this many organizations coming together to make a difference in the lives of children, adults, and families.”
