This weekend is a happening weekend in Alamogordo. What to do?

Friday night start out at 5 pm with a drop in and meet the photographerJean Templeton for a reception, meet and greet and see the art on display at Otero Arts, 1118 Indiana Avenue, Alamogordo. Free open to the public and in the historic Alamogordo Women’s Club building where history, art and cultural meld together in fun and enlightenment.

Then walk or drive three blocks over to the 800 and 900 Block of New York Avenue for Downtown Nights First Friday. Each store is open till 8 pm. Food trucks and special offers in each store. Roadrunner Emporium at 928 New York Avenue is hosting, for free, live musician Lenore Whitney to sing the night away 6 pm to 8 pm. And also on-site is documentary film maker and artist Ed Breeding joining the Emporium for a meet and greet and a showing of 30 of his exceptional works of art also from 6 pm to 8 pm.

On-site also will be Linda Swenson spinning yarn by hand on an old fashioned spinning wheel and showing her collection of hand made fine women’s garments.

The Local Bodega, Blush Salon, GloBug, Victoria Alamogordo, Pins and Needles, Mia’s Collectibles and other stores are all open late with special offers and deals. Come join the fun of New York Avenue where history comes alive with art, music, food and commerce. 

Saturday a very special free Easter Egg hunt and meet the Easter Bunny at Washington Park hosted by the City of Alamogordo and Burt Broadcasting, 10 am to 1 pm, vendors, games and more. 

Also Saturday from 10 am to 3 pm Johnny Vasquez hosts a “Can’t Drive 55 Car Show” at the end of 10th street near downtown, at the Sunset Run Park past the water tower across the bypass. . A large selection of vintage, classic and super cool cars, vendors, live music by singer and songwriter Sage Gentlewing, giveaways for adults and children, and more. 

Sunday join the various churches for sunrise services across the city. Happy Easter or Passover to all!
