The Democratic Party of Otero County will be hosting a fundraiser on Tuesday, April 25th for the DPOC Scholarship at the 19th Hole located at:

2351 Hamilton Rd

Alamogordo, NM 88310

The dinner is $50 per plate

History of the Nora Jones Democratic Scholarship Fund

The DPOC Scholarship was started in 2010 by Nola Jones, a very active member of the Democratic Party, when she “passed the hat” for students graduating from Academy Del Sol, an alternative high school in Alamogordo. The hat was passed again in 2011 and scholarships were awarded to a student in Mescalero and 2 students that attended NMSU-A. A committee was then created and a prompt for an essay question was written. The scholarship is now offered to all students who wish to apply from Alamogordo, Cloudcroft, Mescalero and Tularosa High Schools.

In 2022, the scholarship that was awarded to the student from Mescalero and was named the Henrietta Stockel Scholarship for her dedication to the tribe.
