The Flickinger Center presents State Street Ballet’s The Jungle Book next week Tuesday April 11, 2023 at 7:00pm. This wonderful show is finally here after two years of delays and we are so excited! The Flickinger Center is located at 1110 New York Avenue in downtown Alamogordo.

State Street Ballet goes on tour for two months every season, bringing original dance and education programs to theaters and schools around the world. With standing ovations from China to Chile! Alamogordo is very fortunate to host such a prestigious group. 

State Street Ballet, founded in 1994, is an internationally acclaimed dance company based in Santa Barbara, CA and is a pioneering collaborative that employs dancers from around the world – currently 20 dancers representing five countries.

Water, Air, Earth, and Fire, the four natural elements, intertwine in this dazzling adaptation of Rudyard Kipling’s classic collection of stories. The complexities of the jungle and the personalities of its creatures come alive through movement, music, and the dynamic storytelling of some of life’s greatest moral lessons. The Jungle Book follows the adventures of Mowgli, a young jungle boy transporting viewers through a mystical land of wolves, snakes, monkeys, and panthers. This land 

Choreographed by Artistic Director Rodney Gustafson, with an original score by Czech composer and conductor Milan Svoboda, The Jungle Book premiered to enthusiastic audiences, instantly being called a “crowd-pleaser”, “a joy to behold”, and “visually stunning.” Following the adventures of Mowgli, a young jungle boy, The Jungle Book transports viewers through a mystical land of wolves, snakes, monkeys, and panthers, showcasing relationships and alliances in this iconic coming-of-age story. Drama, humor, and daringly athletic choreography have made this a consistently successful touring production, one that pleases audiences of all ages.

For those who respect the world of ballet the Choreographer, Rodney Gustafson, is a name that is familiar and respected across the globe.

Dance has always been a part of Rodney Gustafson’s life. As a professional dancer with American Ballet Theatre, Gustafson worked with many of the greatest dancers and choreographers of all time — Mikhail Baryshnikov, Alvin Ailey, George Balanchine, Rudolph Nureyev, Jerome Robbins, and more. He appeared in films such as The Turning Point and Baryshnikov’s Nutcracker, and performed in several Live from Lincoln Center specials on PBS. He is the Founder and Executive & Artistic Director of State Street Ballet, where he created numerous full-length ballets for the company, including The Nutcracker, Romeo and Juliet, Cinderella, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, and The Jungle Book. Most important to Gustafson is breaking the body stereotypes of ballet. State Street Ballet is now internationally acclaimed and respected for artistic excellence and for its diverse repertoire, and is currently celebrating their 27th Season.

The company he founded combines the discipline and timeless elegance of classical ballet technique with updated, cutting-edge choreography. Combining this with special effects and technology, the company produces original works that satisfy today’s diverse audiences.
