Loyola "Loy" Romero, a beloved resident of Alamogordo, New Mexico, passed away peacefully on April 7, 2026, at the age of 81. Born on July 31, 1944, in Tularosa, New Mexico, Loy lived a life filled with love, devotion, and generosity.
Loy graduated from high school in Tularosa and went on to dedicate many years of her career to the district attorney's office before retiring. Her work ethic and commitment to her community were evident throughout her professional life.
Family was at the heart of Loy's world. She is survived by her only son, William Romero and his wife Phyllis; her cherished granddaughter, Siara Romero Chavira and husband Nicholas; her great grandson, Silas Anthony Chavira. Loy was predeceased by her devoted husband of 55 years, Billy G. Romero; her parents, Otila and Bernable Chavez; three brothers, Alex, Ernest, and Bernable Jr.; one sister, Cecelia Garcia. She also held a special place in her heart for all her nieces and nephews.
A woman of deep faith, Loy was devoted to St. Anthony and actively volunteered for Catholic fiestas in her community. Her spirituality was a guiding force in her life, reflected in her daily prayers and dedication to helping others whenever needed.
Loy found joy in simple yet meaningful pursuits. She was an exceptional cook whose baking brought smiles to many faces. Her crochet projects were crafted with care, and she found solace in reading her Bible. Loy had a particular fondness for dogs and enjoyed playing with them as well as trading them with others who shared her passion for animals.
Those who knew Loy will remember her for her generous spirit, vibrant personality, and unwavering love for those around her. She had a special bond with her granddaughter, Siara, and delighted in spending time with family. Her spicy persona brought laughter and warmth to every gathering.
Loy’s memory will live on through the countless lives she touched with kindness and love. May those who mourn find comfort in remembering the joy she brought into their lives.
Services to honor Loyola "Loy" Romero will be held on Friday, April 17, 2026, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 705 Delaware Ave. Rosary will be recited at 1:00 pm with Mass Celebrated at 1:30 pm.
Burial will follow at Monte Vista Cemetery.
