Berylon Darrell Pace went home to his Lord and Savior on December 3, 2025. He passed away peacefully with his devoted wife of 71 years, Shirley Mae Pace, by his side.
Darrell was born on December 27, 1935, in Knox City, Texas, the eldest son of Clyde A. and Alpha Laverne Pace. He grew up surrounded by a large, loving family and shared his childhood with his siblings: Paul, Weldon, Phillip, Donald Wayne, and LaNita.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers Paul, Weldon, and Donald; his sister LaNita Rigsbee; and his beloved daughter, Kerry Celice Pace.
Darrell is survived by his wife, Shirley Mae; his son, Berry Dale Pace, and daughter-in-law, Marjo Pace; Grandchildren, Rachele Pace, Britney Pace, Roy Thomas and Maaike Thomas, as well as 7 great grandchildren and many extended family members and friends who loved him dearly.
On November 6, 1954, Darrell met the love of his life, Shirley Nuckols. Their bond was immediate and enduring. They welcomed their first child, Kerry Celice, on September 9, 1956, and their son, Berry Dale, on August 28, 1963. Together, they built a life anchored in faith, love, and dedication to one another.
As a young adult, Darrell accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior and faithfully lived out his commitment throughout his life, never wavering in his devotion.
Darrell worked his way up through the lumber industry, achieving management roles in several companies. He took great pride in his work and contributed to many successes within the lumber business.
Darrell and Shirley moved to Alamogordo in 1995, where they joyfully made their home. They were active members of Bethel Baptist Church, and Darrell served as a deacon for many years, offering his guidance, service, and heart to the church community.
Darrell enjoyed trail riding on his motorcycles, and spending time outdoors. A lover of nature, he found great joy in gardening. He was also a skilled woodworker, creating beautiful furniture pieces that his family will treasure for generations. After retiring from New Mexico State University, where he worked in maintenance for seven years, Darrell discovered a new passion: quilting. He and Shirley attended quilting classes together, and one of their first completed quilts was lovingly made from fabric patches his mother had started many years before.
Darrell will be remembered for his strong faith, devoted love for his family, craftsmanship, and gentle spirit. His legacy lives on in the hearts of all who knew and cherished him.
Services will be held on Monday, December 15th, 2025, at Scenic Chapel on 1334 N. Scenic Drive, Alamogordo, NM. Burial will follow at Monte Vista Cemetery.
