In Memory of Genevieve Anderson Armstrong

Genevieve Anderson Armstrong passed away at the age of 88 on Monday, February 24, 2025, at her home in Alamogordo, New Mexico. She was born on July 25, 1936, in Pine Oak Township, Illinois to Merle Clarence and Viola Julia (Buettikoffer) Anderson. Genny received her degree in Social Work from New Mexico State University in May of 1983. She went on to work for and retire from the New Mexico Children, Youth and Family Department where for many years she loved and cared for hurting children. Genny lived in the Alamogordo area since 1973. She, along with her husband Tom, was an active member of Grace United Methodist Church. Genevieve and Tom were married on November 2, 1957, in St. Louis, Missouri.

Genevieve Anderson Armstrong was preceded in death by her husband, James Thomas Armstong and her sister, Pauline Ritter of Burlington, Iowa. She is survived by three sons, Rev. Jay Armstrong and his wife, Laura of Farmington, New Mexico, James Armstrong II and his wife, Marivel of Alamogordo, New Mexico and Rev. Daniel Armstrong and his wife, Julie of Odessa, Texas; three daughters, Lydia French and her husband, David of Alamogordo, New Mexico, Andrea Martin and her husband, Curtis of San Antonio, Texas and Trudy Hartmann and her husband, Ray of Kempner, Texas; a multitude of grandchildren and great grandchildren; brother, George Anderson of St. Jacob, IL; and sister, Mary Anderson of King George, VA.

A Celebration of Life Service will be conducted at 10:00 am on Friday, March 7, 2025, at Grace Methodist Church, 1206 Greenwood Lane, Alamogordo, NM, 88310. Her ashes will be interred with her husband at Fort Bliss National Cemetery in El Paso, Texas.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made in her name to Grace Methodist Church or to Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) of Alamogordo.

The Armstrong family has entrusted their loved one to the care of Alamogordo Funeral Home.
