ALAMOGORDO, N.M. — Alamogordo police reported drug trafficking arrests, a five-vehicle crash, and a string of weekend DWI arrests in the department's weekly activity log for Sept. 28 through Oct. 4.
The week opened Monday with officers assisting the White Mountain Drug Task Force. Two people were arrested on charges of trafficking a controlled substance and conspiracy, and a third, already in custody, was served with a criminal complaint for possession of a controlled substance. A fourth person was arrested Friday on a possession warrant during another task force assist.
Also Monday, a man was arrested on a charge of aggravated battery against a household member causing great bodily harm following a domestic violence investigation. Another man, arrested on a warrant and charged with resisting an officer, was later served with a complaint for aggravated stalking.
On Tuesday, police, fire and ambulance crews responded to a five-car pileup at the south U.S. 54/70 junction. Officers said a silver pickup failed to brake in time. Everyone reporting injuries was treated and released at the scene, and the pickup's driver received several traffic citations.
The same day, a disturbance at the Otero Village Apartments led to citations for three people, and a man was arrested at his residence on charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and negligent use of a deadly weapon.
On Wednesday, officers responding to an alarm at Dollar Boots and Jean found the front windows damaged. Police said a man entered the business, walked around and left. Video and photos were recovered, and the investigation continues.
Three people faced cruelty to children allegations during the week: two were cited Friday after a disturbance, and a man was arrested Sunday on charges of assault and cruelty to children after a disturbance in the 1100 block of Dewey Avenue.
Four people were arrested on DWI charges, one Saturday and three Sunday. One of the Sunday drivers was released to a military supervisor.
Three juveniles, ages 13 and 14, were referred to juvenile probation on allegations including battery, disorderly conduct and battery against a household member.
Officers also responded to five unattended deaths. Four appeared to be from natural causes. The fifth, involving a 59-year-old found unresponsive Thursday, remains under investigation.
Other entries included warrant arrests, trespassing, shoplifting, and citations for cruelty to animals and malicious use of a telephone.
The log lists major activity only, not every call for service. All charges are allegations, and those accused are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
