Alamogordo, N.M. — A significant fire broke out at Tinsley Trailer Park (1620 N. White Sands Blvd.) this evening, drawing a multi-engine response from the Alamogordo Fire Department and support from police. On-scene reports indicate the fire began in one structure before impacting multiple others, with early accounts citing as many as four trailers and at least one commercial building affected.

Thick black smoke billowed high into the clear blue sky, visible from a distance, as firefighters worked the scene. Images from the location show multiple red fire apparatus, including engines and a ladder truck, a police vehicle, and a white service/support truck positioned in the dusty lot amid trees and power lines. The fire has now been extinguished and the area secured.

Fire investigators are preparing to examine the scene to determine the cause and origin. Officials are asking the public and spectators to stay well clear of the area so crews can safely complete investigation and cleanup work without interference or contamination of evidence.

No official information has been released yet regarding injuries or displacement.

Long-Standing Issues at Tinsley Trailer Park

Tinsley Trailer Park has faced persistent challenges with property maintenance and code compliance for years. The site includes roughly 25–30 occupied trailers and has been the source of repeated neighbor complaints, frequent police calls, and documented substandard conditions.

In September 2024, the Alamogordo City Commission voted unanimously (7-0) to condemn the property following a zoning recommendation. Commissioners cited ongoing code violations, maintenance failures, quality-of-life impacts on nearby residents, and the volume of police activity. Owners (the Sewell family) were given a two-year window to bring the park into full compliance with city codes. Failure to do so could result in the city moving forward with condemnation proceedings and potential demolition.

This evening’s fire underscores the safety risks associated with older, under-maintained mobile home communities and the importance of proactive code enforcement. Similar concerns have been raised at other local parks in recent years.

The Alamogordo Fire Department and Police Department continue to manage the scene. Anyone with information that could assist the investigation is urged to contact the appropriate authorities. Alamogordo Town News will provide an update once an official notification is released to the press
