ALAMOGORDO, N.M. — U.S. Highway 70 will be temporarily closed Thursday, June 18, 2026, due to operations at White Sands Missile Range.
According to White Sands Missile Range Range Control, the highway is scheduled to close at 8:05 a.m. near Mile 197. The closure is expected to last approximately one hour.
Motorists traveling between Alamogordo and Las Cruces should plan ahead and allow extra travel time during the morning hours. Alternate routes or delayed departures are recommended.
Note: Roadblocks associated with missile range activities are always subject to change without notice due to mission requirements.

Great article, but I think there is some evidence that the large bills people are receiving are not just due to estimated usage. Some people have reported that part or all of their bill was calculated at a higher pricing tier, as if two months' worth of usage was treated as if it occurred in one month.
