ALAMOGORDO — The Children’s Music Theater of Alamogordo premieres Shrek The Musical tonight, Friday, May 1, 2026, at the Flickinger Center for Performing Arts, kicking off a run of family-friendly performances that promise to fill the theater with laughter, music, and fairy-tale fun.

Based on the beloved 2001 DreamWorks Animation film, the stage musical follows the grumpy green ogre Shrek as he teams up with a talkative donkey to rescue Princess Fiona from a dragon-guarded tower. Along the way, they encounter a host of familiar (and not-so-familiar) fairy-tale characters, delivering a story about friendship, acceptance, and learning to love yourself just the way you are. The production features catchy songs, colorful costumes, and plenty of humor suitable for all ages.

Performance Schedule

May 1, 2, 8 & 9 — 7:00 p.m.

May 3 — 2:00 p.m. (matinee)

Tickets are priced at $12 for adults and $7 for kids. They can be purchased through AXS, Vivid Seats, or at the Flickinger Center box office.

The large local cast includes:

Shrek — James Cooper

Donkey — Asher Celoria

Princess Fiona — Paige Celoria (with Katelyn Kunihiro as Young Fiona and Sarah Page as Teen Fiona)

Lord Farquaad — William Page

• And many more talented Alamogordo-area youth performers filling roles such as Gingy, Pinocchio, Puss in Boots, the Big Bad Wolf, and the full Fairytale Creatures Ensemble

This production marks another highlight for the Children’s Music Theater of Alamogordo, a group dedicated to giving local kids valuable stage experience while bringing high-quality, professional-style theater to the community.
