Centennial opened district play with a pair of lopsided wins over Alamogordo, as the Hawks' girls cruised 8-0 and the boys pulled away for a 5-0 victory.
In the boys' match, the Tigers held Centennial scoreless through the first 20 minutes before the Hawks broke through. Solomon Rogosta scored in the 21st minute to give Centennial a 1-0 lead, then converted a penalty kick later in the half to send the Hawks into halftime up 2-0.
Centennial extended its lead in the second half when Ignacio Hernandez scored in the 63rd minute to make it 3-0. The Hawks then struck twice in quick succession, with Christian Frank scoring in the 73rd minute and Andres Cardenas adding another a minute later to seal the 5-0 final.
The loss drops the Tigers to 3-6-2 overall and 0-1 in district play. Alamogordo will look to rebound Thursday when it travels to Organ Mountain.
The Lady Tigers had a difficult night of their own, falling 8-0 to a strong Centennial squad. The defeat moves Alamogordo to 2-8-1 overall and 0-1 in district. The Lady Tigers return home Thursday to host Organ Mountain.
