Khloe Lunar Named Kristin Griego Tournament MVP as Alamogordo Lady Tigers Capture Championship; Tularosa Lady Cats Split Weekend, Wildcats Split at NMMI Baseball Tournament

Alamogordo, N.M. — The Tiger Athlete of the Week, sponsored by Tularosa Basin Telephone Company,  Tularosa Communications, Inc. and The Winners’ Circle, goes to Khloe Lunar of the Alamogordo Lady Tigers softball team. Lunar earned tournament MVP honors as Alamogordo went undefeated to win the Kristin Griego Memorial Tournament in Rio Rancho over the weekend of March 27-28, 2026.

The Lady Tigers opened the tournament with a thrilling 6-5 victory over Cibola, improving to 7-0. They followed with an 11-1 win over Sandia to move to 8-0, then blanked Carlsbad 6-0 to reach 10-0 and advance to the championship game. In the final on Saturday, Alamogordo defeated Aztec 4-2 to claim the tournament title and finish the weekend at a perfect 11-0.

Joining Lunar as standout performers for the Lady Tigers were Amani Cosom, Hailey Evans, Davi Gonzalez, and Alyssa Bautista. The team now prepares to host Centennial on Tuesday.

Tularosa Lady Cats also competed at the Kristin Griego Tournament, posting a mixed bag of results. They fell to Farmington 13-2 and to Hobbs 12-7 on Friday, dropping to 3-5. The Lady Cats bounced back with a 12-10 win over Valencia on Friday to improve to 4-5. On Saturday they defeated Bloomfield 11-1 to reach 5-5, but dropped a 15-11 decision to Atrisco Heritage later that day, finishing the weekend at 5-6.

Tularosa’s next game is at Capitan on Tuesday.

On the baseball diamond, the Tularosa Wildcats competed at the NMMI Tournament in Roswell. They opened with an 18-7 loss to Portales on Friday, falling to 2-4. The Wildcats responded strongly on Friday with a 9-6 victory over Ruidoso, improving to 3-4. They are scheduled to face Gateway Christian on Saturday at 12:30 p.m.

The weekend showcased the competitive spirit of local teams against strong regional opponents. Alamogordo’s undefeated run and tournament championship highlight a dominant start to the season, while Tularosa’s splits in both softball and baseball demonstrate resilience and the ability to secure key wins.
