City of Alamogordo Collection Center Provides Convenient Solid Waste Disposal Options for Residents

ALAMOGORDO, N.M. — Need to dump or dispose of solid materials that aren’t suitable for regular curbside pickup? The City of Alamogordo’s Collection Center (also known as the Transfer Station) offers maximum convenience with a safe, organized, and regulated facility for responsible waste management.

Located at 224 Lavelle Road, Alamogordo, NM 88310, the Collection Center is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. It serves both city residents and small construction contractors, helping keep neighborhoods clean while reducing illegal dumping and supporting environmental stewardship.

Accepted Materials Include:

• Household garbage and refuse

• Yard waste

• Furniture

• Household appliances

• Scrap metal

• Used motor oil and anti-freeze

• Electronics, cell phones, household batteries, ink cartridges, and rechargeable tool batteries

• Vehicle batteries

• Paint (must be fully solidified with lids removed – liquid paint not accepted)

• Construction and demolition debris (limited/approved amounts)

Mulch is available to the public at no cost, subject to availability.

The facility operates as a self-haul site — customers must transport their own materials. It does not accept liquids, hazardous waste, or animal remains. All items must meet acceptance criteria, and staff may refuse non-compliant materials.

Important Safety Note: During periods of high winds (sustained at 30 mph or higher), the Collection Center may temporarily close for the safety of staff and visitors. Call 575-439-4109 in advance if windy conditions are expected.

The Collection Center plays a key role in the City’s integrated solid waste system. It promotes recycling efforts where possible, ensures regulatory compliance, and supports public health and environmental protection. Fees are set by City Commission resolution and help maintain sustainable operations.
