Tribal Council Establishes 2026 Mid-Year General Welfare Assistance Program

MESCALERO, N.M. — At a duly called session on June 29, 2026, the Mescalero Apache Tribal Council voted to establish the Mid-Year General Welfare Assistance Program for 2026, a new benefit aimed at helping tribal members offset rising costs.

The program is designed to assist tribal members with back-to-school expenses, increased gasoline prices, and higher costs for groceries and other necessities driven by inflation. Each eligible enrolled tribal member who completes an application will receive $700.00. The Tribe is encouraging every tribal member to apply.

This is a non-taxable general welfare assistance program. Tribal members are urged to review the Policies and Procedures for full details on eligibility and eligible uses of the funds.

Where to Find the Application

The application is available online starting today, July 1, 2026, and will be available at the tribal offices starting Tuesday, July 7, 2026, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Deadline for Submission

• To be paid on July 28, 2026, applications must be submitted by July 14, 2026, no later than 4:30 p.m. Distributions will be made in person at the Mescalero Community Center on July 28. Checks for out-of-town individuals will be mailed on July 29, 2026, at 2:00 p.m.

• Payments for applications submitted after July 14 but before August 31 will be distributed at the Mescalero Community Center every Friday from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., or mailed for those residing out of town. Applications must be received by 4:30 p.m. Wednesday to be available for pickup that Friday.

Incomplete and late applications will be denied. No exceptions.
