Congratulations are in order for Alamogordo High School senior Ryan Amberson, who has officially signed his Letter of Intent to continue his soccer career at Dakota Wesleyan University in Mitchell, South Dakota. The talented midfielder and forward, a key player for the Alamogordo Tigers, marks a significant milestone in his athletic journey with this commitment to the NAIA level

Amberson, a member of the Class of 2026, has been a varsity staple for the Tigers in both soccer and tennis over three seasons. In soccer, where he donned jersey #10 and served as team captain, Amberson showcased his skills as a midfielder and forward. During the 2025-26 season, he appeared in 20 games, amassing 25 points with 12 goals, 1 assist, and 31 shots, averaging 0.6 goals per match. His performance earned him rankings of 64th in New Mexico for goals, 22nd in Class 5A, and 5th in 5A District 3. Standout games included a hat-trick (3 goals) in a matchup against Organ Mountain on September 25, 2025, and multiple two-goal outings against strong opponents like Las Cruces.
His excellence on the field didn’t go unnoticed, as Amberson was selected as the Tigers’ Player of the Game on several occasions, including October 22, 20, 14, and 2, 2025. Earlier in the season, he was honored as the Tiger Athlete of the Week on August 29, 2025, by 101.9/1230 AM, sponsored by Tularosa Basin. While specific tennis statistics are limited, Amberson’s dual-sport participation highlights his versatility and dedication to athletics at AHS.
The signing announcement was shared widely, including by Alamogordo High School and local sports outlets, celebrating Amberson’s achievement. Dakota Wesleyan University, an NAIA institution, competes in the Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC). The Tigers’ men’s soccer program emphasizes development, community, and competitive play in a supportive environment, making it an ideal fit for ambitious student-athletes like Amberson.
As Amberson prepares to head north to Mitchell, the Alamogordo community rallies behind him. His high school coach and teammates, including fellow seniors featured in local media appearances, have praised his leadership and work ethic. This commitment not only reflects Amberson’s hard work but also underscores the strength of Alamogordo’s youth sports programs.
