Alamogordo, NM — December 15, 2025

The City of Alamogordo’s Utilities Department – Engineering Division has announced a temporary traffic control configuration at the intersection of 9th Street and New York Avenue, effective immediately and lasting through Friday, December 19.

The change comes as part of ongoing infrastructure work in the area. For the past two weeks, New York Avenue had been temporarily opened to through traffic to support local businesses and accommodate scheduled events. That condition has now ended, prompting a revised access and parking plan to ensure continued support for downtown commerce.

Key Changes:

• No Through Traffic at 9th & New York: Vehicles will not be permitted to pass through the intersection.

• Temporary Two-Way Access on New York Avenue: The west side of New York Avenue will operate as a two-way roadway to allow parking maneuvers and safe exits onto 10th Street.

• Modified Turns at 10th Street: Vehicles exiting New York Avenue eastbound onto 10th Street must obey a temporary stop sign. Left (westbound) turns onto 10th Street are prohibited.

• Access via 8th Street: New York Avenue and 8th Street will also temporarily operate as a two-way route, with parking allowed only on the west side.

Motorists are urged to use caution and follow all posted signage. The city emphasizes that businesses along New York Avenue remain accessible up to the 9th Street intersection.

Senior Project Manager Justen Boyle is overseeing the configuration and encourages residents with questions to contact him at 575-439-4235 or jpboyle@ci.alamogordo.nm.us.
