Otero County, NM — November 7, 2025 A tense standoff in Boles Acres ended peacefully Friday evening after law enforcement arrested a male suspect wanted in connection with an aggravated battery investigation. The incident prompted a coordinated response from the Otero County Sheriff’s Office (OCSO) and the New Mexico State Police (NMSP), including tactical and crisis negotiation teams.

At approximately 6:00 p.m., OCSO deputies, pursuing leads in an active Aggravated Battery (Great Bodily Harm) case, located the suspect at a residence in Boles Acres. Upon arrival, officers initiated verbal commands and secured the perimeter. The NMSP Tactical Team entered the home, where they encountered the suspect holding a one-year-old child and armed with a black-edged weapon.

Crisis Negotiators from the New Mexico State Police engaged the suspect in dialogue, ultimately persuading him to release his children unharmed. The children were safely reunited with their mother. Following a brief standoff, the suspect surrendered without further incident and was taken into custody by Otero County Sheriff’s Office deputies.

He was transported to a local hospital for medical clearance before being booked into the Otero County Detention Center on the charge of Aggravated Battery (Great Bodily Harm). Additional charges are pending, including:

  • Two Counts of Kidnapping
  • One Count of Aggravated Assault with Intent to Commit a Violent Felony
  • One Count of Resisting, Evading, or Obstructing an Officer

Undersheriff Raul Robles expressed gratitude for the swift and professional response of the New Mexico State Police, stating, “Their support and expertise were instrumental in ensuring the safety of everyone involved.”

The investigation remains ongoing.
