Miyagishima Releases Campaign Finance Report Early, Emphasizes Grassroots Integrity - AlamogordoTownNews.org

LAS CRUCES, NM — Democratic gubernatorial candidate and longtime Las Cruces mayor Ken Miyagishima has released his campaign finance report several days ahead of the October 14, 2025 deadline, signaling a proactive commitment to transparency and fiscal responsibility in his bid for New Mexico’s highest office.

In a statement shared with The 47th Voice News, and AlamogordoTownNews.org Miyagishima emphasized his decades-long policy of refusing contributions from developers, contractors, PACs, and special interest groups. “Throughout my thirty years as Mayor, City Councilor, and County Commissioner, I have maintained a strict policy of not soliciting or accepting funds from anyone with contracts with the city or county,” he said. “This campaign continues that tradition.”

The early release of the report is intended to showcase what Miyagishima calls a “responsible financial strategy” rooted in grassroots support. His campaign has raised nearly half of its projected $750,000 budget through a combination of modest cash donations and a significant volume of in-kind contributions. “You’ll see two entries for some companies—one for actual cash paid, and another reflecting the value of donated services,” he explained.

Notably, Miyagishima has personally contributed $50,000 to his campaign and has voluntarily capped outside contributions at $5,000—well below the state’s legal maximum of $12,400. “This decision underscores our dedication to a campaign built on authentic grassroots support, free from corporate influence,” he said.

The report also reflects a strategic approach to budgeting. Miyagishima criticized the practice of transferring personal funds into non-interest-bearing accounts simply to inflate “cash on hand” figures. “It’s not financially prudent,” he said. “We have sufficient resources to navigate the primary and, with continued support, advance to the general election.”

While no formal polling has been released, Miyagishima expressed confidence in his campaign’s trajectory. “We are ahead of our internal projections, and I am confident that, if a poll were conducted today, we would reveal a competitive position.”

As the gubernatorial race heats up, Miyagishima’s early disclosure and principled fundraising approach set a tone of accountability and reform—hallmarks of his decades-long public service in Southern New Mexico.
