The family of Richard Adam Johnson has confirmed that human remains discovered earlier this week in Alamogordo belong to their missing brother, bringing a tragic end to a months-long search that deeply affected the local community.
Johnson, affectionately known as “Richie,” was last seen on July 2, 2025, after being released from the Otero County Jail. Conflicting reports about his discharge time and the dispatch of an ambulance upon his release had raised concerns among family members and fueled public speculation.
On Wednesday, September 10, 2025, deputies from the Otero County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call near Airport Road and Highway 70, where they discovered several human body parts at approximately 7:03 a.m. The remains were later confirmed by the family to be those of Johnson.
In a heartfelt statement shared publicly, the Johnson family via Sophia Reyes Tsou expressed their grief and gratitude:
“He’s gone. On behalf of our family, we ask that you continue to pray for his wife, his children, his family, his friends, and those that loved him; as we try to navigate the next steps of this nightmare. We are grateful for everyone who cared, prayed, and supported our efforts to find him.”
The family also urged the public to be respectful in their comments, noting how online platforms can sometimes desensitize people to the pain behind such tragedies.
The Alamogordo Police Department released a somewhat cryptic statement suggesting no foul play nor linking the remains to any specific investigation, though Johnson’s disappearance was one of several high-profile missing persons cases in the area this year.
As the Johnson family begins the difficult journey of mourning, they ask for continued prayers and privacy. The community, which rallied behind the search efforts, now turns its focus to supporting those left behind.
