City Infrastructure Improvements Celebrated with Commissioner Warren Robinson and Mayor Pro Temp Sharon McDonald

With construction all over town some citizens have complained of traffic disruptions but the fact remains the city of Alamogordo this last year has been on an aggressive infrastructure improvement program making uo for decades of neglect. Twelve new infrastructure improvement projects are on the board to soon go out to bid further upgrading the decades of neglect.

Last week the City of Alamogordo marked another milestone in their commitment to smart growth and economic development with the ribbon cutting of the 4th Ground Storage Tank at Lower Heights. Mayor Pro-Tem McDonald and Commissioner Robinson had the honor of turning the valve to begin filling our 2.3 million-gallon tank.

Smart growth is more than buildings and roads; it’s about creating a strong foundation that allows residents, businesses, and future generations to thrive. By focusing on critical infrastructure, we’re strengthening the systems that support housing, job creation, commercial investment, and quality of life.

Since October, the City has delivered on several major infrastructure projects:

New York Avenue Water System Repair and Sewage Line Replacement

Hubbard Bridge Replacement

Public Works Basin

Upper Heights Tank Rehabilitation

Zoo IT Infrastructure Upgrades

Lower Heights Tank Rehabilitation

These projects are key to ensuring the city can support both current and future development without overextending existing resources. And we’re not slowing down. By the end of the year, the city will also wrap up:
🔹 Great Blocks revitalization
🔹 Oregon WSRP
🔹 10th Street Bridge
🔹 Golf Course Irrigation System Upgrade
🔹 Zoo wall upgrade

The City is gearing up to launch more than 12 major utility and infrastructure projects, including water system upgrades, stormwater improvements,  tank rehabilitation, and more.

Several additional projects are also in the design phase, focused on long-term improvements to wastewater systems, drainage, and traffic signals.

To hear the full update, please tune in to our June 24 City Commission Meeting, where staff will present details to the Commission on what’s next for Alamogordo’s smart growth strategy.
