Alamogordo High School is proud to announce the hiring of Hailey Drefs as the new Head Coach for the Lady Tigers Soccer program. Coach Drefs brings a unique blend of athletic, coaching, and professional experience to the program. A former Division II collegiate soccer player at Northwest Nazarene University along with four years of high school soccer experience, she has a deep understanding of the sport and what it takes to succeed at multiple levels of competition. Coach Drefs currently volunteers as a powerlifting coach for Alamogordo High School and has even competed in the sport herself, demonstrating her hands-on commitment to student athletics.

Beyond the field, Coach Drefs serves Alamogordo Public Schools as an occupational therapist, working with elementary and middle school students. Her experience in this role has given her valuable insight into the diverse backgrounds of students and the profound impact a supportive adult can have in their lives.

"Through coaching powerlifting, I’ve been able to connect with high school students and help them realize their potential, " said Coach Drefs.

"I’ve seen firsthand how encouragement, structure, and belief in their abilities can shape young athletes into confident individuals."

Over the past five years, Coach Drefs has remained deeply connected to APS athletics through her husband’s involvement in various coaching roles. Her increasing engagement with the sports community has naturally led to this next step—leading the Lady Tiger Soccer team.

"I expect Lady Tiger Soccer to be a pivotal piece of pride and respect within the community and the school, " Coach Drefs stated.

"I want to focus on creating an inclusive and supportive environment, both on and off the field, while also redeveloping fundamental soccer skills to make playing as a team effortless. My goal is to help build smarter and stronger athletes as a whole."

Coach Drefs emphasizes adaptability as one of the most important lessons she took from her collegiate playing days."In order to be adaptable, we have to be flexible in our game plans and able to respond to what we are seeing from our opponents, as well as versatile in our ability to perform in different roles on the field, " she said.

"We are thrilled to welcome Coach Drefs as the new leader of our Lady Tiger Soccer program, " said Alan Edmonson, APS Director of Athletics.

"Her passion for student-athlete development, combined with her experience both on the field and in our schools, makes her an incredible asset to the team. Coach Drefs brings a strong vision for building a competitive, inclusive, and character-driven program, and we are excited to see where she takes Lady Tiger Soccer. "

Alamogordo High School is excited to begin this new chapter under Coach Drefs’ leadership and looks forward to the future of Lady Tiger Soccer.
