The US Geological Survey has now confirmedĀ a 5.4 temblor as the strongest of three stronger-than-usual earthquakes to rock the area of Southern New Mexico Saturday night at 7:47 pm. The quakesĀ also included magnitude 3.4 and 2.9 quakes. Alamogordo residents reported feeling the 5.4 which was first reported as a 4.7 and then a 5.3 now confirmed as a 5.4.

Shortly after, there were two smaller aftershocks, a 3.4 andĀ  2.9 magnitude, near the spot of the original tremor.

The USGS says they occurred at 7:57 and 9:24 p.m. Saturday, but the later twoĀ were likely undetectable or not noticeable to most people excepting for wildlife and house petsĀ for those in the borderland such as Alamogordo.Ā

Back on Feb. 14. 2025, the Ā area was rocked by a 4.9 magnitude earthquake about 30 miles northwest of Toyah, Texas in Reeves County which some locals felt.

Saturday temblor was part of a swarm of 46 mostly small earthquakes in the area since early April, USGS data indicates. There's a 65% chance of a strong aftershock within a week, it said.

The Geological survey's "Did You Feel It" list shows responses from the Texas cities of Arlington, Midland, Lubbock and New Mexico cities of Alamogordo, Las Cruces and smallers villages reporting the shake.

No injuries were reported and no property damage is reported either.Ā
