Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham has signed two bills strengthening New Mexico’s support for communities near military installations such as Las Cruces and Alamogordo.
House Bill 158 establishes the Military Base Impact Fund to finance critical infrastructure projects in areas surrounding military bases across the state. The fund will provide grants for local infrastructure initiatives, with oversight from the Office of Military Base Planning and Support and the Economic Development Department. This legislation becomes effective June 20, 2025.
House Bill 159 strengthens coordination between developers and the state’s Military Base Planning Commission. The law requires developers to notify the commission when initiating federal reviews and receiving final determinations on proposed energy projects to help avoid conflicts with military operations. This measure takes effect July 1, 2025.
Both bills were identified as priority initiatives by the Military Base Planning Commission.
“The Military Base Planning Commission is grateful to the legislature and Governor for approval of House Bills 158 and 159 and the demonstration of New Mexico’s commitment to military missions in our state,” said Paul Cassidy, Vice-Chair, Military Base Planning Commission.
Sunny, with a high of 60 and low of 35 degrees. Sunny in the morning, clear in the afternoon and evening,
i have known a number of people, both men and women, who have worked as federal/state/local prison staff - and heard their stories...it does not sound appealing. but, it is a job, and in these uncertain times that is better than no job.
well my goodness! distinguished local fellow cast aside because he was never confirmed by the senate - has it ever occurred to folks that the people whose job it is to enforce the laws, should conform to those same laws themselves? looks like irony ain't dead after all.
