Chaparral, New Mexico – January 14, 2026 – Just in from the Otero County Sheriff’s Office: Deputies were called out yesterday to the Chaparral area after multiple reports of shots fired near Diane Court.
According to the official release from Sheriff David Black and Undersheriff Raul Robles, the Tularosa Basin Regional Dispatch Authority fielded several calls Wednesday afternoon about gunfire in the vicinity of 949 Diane Court. One of the callers reported that a male subject had been shot and was being rushed by private vehicle to a hospital in El Paso for treatment.
When deputies arrived, a local resident told them he heard about two gunshots and some yelling, then saw a four-door sedan (color unknown) and a motorcycle heading west out of the area right after the shots.
A woman in the neighborhood later spoke with investigators, saying her brother-in-law had been shot near the intersection of Hermosa Drive and Diane Court. She helped guide deputies to the general spot where the incident reportedly happened.
Deputies searched the area thoroughly and even got consent to check the property at 949 Diane Court—no shell casings or other evidence turned up during the canvass.
The victim received medical treatment at an El Paso hospital for gunshot wounds to his lower legs and hand.
Investigators interviewed several people tied to the incident, but statements were inconsistent and some folks weren’t very cooperative. Right now, no suspects have been named, and the whole situation is still very much under active investigation.
