A new exhibition is opening February 7th at the Otero ArtSpace. Featured are the photographic expressions of Linda Cherepow and Kim Melton.

Some of Linda Cherepow’s photographs were taken during her years working in Africa where she was able to collaborate in wildlife studies. She said, “I have traveled on international expeditions to observe birds and animals in their natural habitat… meeting so many wonderful people along the way.” Her photography captures the natural world and gives the viewer a glimpse into varied environments. She said photography “empowers me to celebrate fleeting moments and convey emotions that defy verbal expressions.”

Kim Melton’s interest in photography developed when she was a teenager. She said, “It was the beginning of my love for black and white photography.” She has been influenced by the early work of Imogen Cunningham and Brooke Shaden. Melton said, “I am more interested in capturing the beauty of the subject, the light and shadow of the planes of the face and body rather than pure documentation.” It is important to Melton to print her own images because she can edit using textures and modified tonality.

Melton and Cherepow have been friends for many years, This is an exhibition of their shared bonds while maintaining their distinct voices.

Join the free public opening of the exhibition February 7th, 2025 5 pm to 7 pm at Otero Arts, 1118 Indiana at 12th Street bordering the historic New York Avenue cultural arts and history district.
