An Otero County jury convicted Isaiah Leonard, 18 of Alamogordo, New Mexico, ofSecond-Degree Murder, Reckless Abuse of a Child Resulting in Death, Tampering with Evidence, Two counts of Assault with Intent to Commit a Violent Felony, Aggravated Battery (Deadly Weapon), Two counts of Abuse of a Child (not resulting in death or great bodily harm), Larceny of a Firearm, Unlawful Carrying of a Handgun by a Person Under the Age of 19, and Unlawful Carrying of a Deadly Weapon in December.
On October 13, 2023, Isaiah Leonard (17 years of age, at the time of the incident) approached a group of minors at the south end of Oregon Park near Charlotte Lane, approximately two blocks from the Alamogordo High School. Leonard made it known to the minors upon his approach that he was in possession of a 9mm semi-automatic handgun and proceeded to confront the minors in an apparent attempt to settle a prior issue. One of the minors positioned themselves in a defensive position behind Leonard and upon seeing the handgun and fearing for the safety of himself and the others, attempted to take Leonard to the ground. Leonard fired three rounds striking three of the minors; fatally wounding Jyrese Collier, (14) of Alamogordo, NM.
The other two minors recovered from their gunshot wounds. Leonard then fled the area and was apprehended by the Alamogordo Police Department a short time later at his home.
The Alamogordo High School, which was still in session, was placed on a shelter in place upon the report of shots being fired in the area. After law enforcement arrived and secured the scene, the shelter in place was lifted and students were released from school.
The case was investigated by the Alamogordo Police Department and the Twelfth Judicial District Major Crimes Unit and prosecuted by Chief Deputy District Attorney Roxeanne Esquibel, Assistant District Attorney Brandi Red, and Assistant District Attorney Ryan Suggs.
Sentencing was set at a later date before the Honorable Stephen Ochoa.

Yep, Cota is not ready for a public office let alone a Mayor.
Any chance Anthony Lucero would interview Ted Morgan?
There’s a thing called reactive abuse. It can be used to bring frivolous, costly lawsuits (aka lawfare). Please educate yourself so you do not fall for harassment baiting. There are some very interesting videos on Youtube about it.
Great article. You do not even have to name the people, I already know who you are talking about. Keep speaking the truth. Love it.

First my Facebook page got shut down after I got attacked by a hostile group of strangers... First they came for me. Then I offered you a chance to read what was going on with me as a warning, and you didn't want to.
New sidewalks for some neighborhoods. What about the Walker area that is also in her district. Seeing is believing, Walker area has always been ignored.
Have you ever messaged her about it, or are you just complaining to complain? Her actions speak louder than all the other commissioners combined.
She championed and approved $12 million dollars worth of Water system upgrades for walker road and yet you choose to ignore that. It is in the design phase with contract bidding to be announed in early 2026 with work to begin in later spring. That is the largest capital investment in Walker Road in over 50 years.
Did anyone see what Senator Charles Grassley is saying about AI yesterday. What does that have to do with this? It might explain why legal systems in many cities are such a mess.
But also: Why is no one talking about the DISMAL low income housing in Alamogordo, and the need to investigate what is going on in those places, and the lack of housing for homeless???????????

It is interesting as you delve into the family, business and indeed religious connections that are intertwined in city politics. Some folks have a whole lit of fleas scratching the dog.
Absolutely true lots of fleas itching the dog!!
I somehow got logged out without doing so since last time I was here. I wanted to view the Flickinger meeting on Facebook but cannot because my account was taken down. I do not attend these public events because of all the attempts to mess with my life already.
