Stabbing Murders in Alamogordo: Is a Pattern Developing?

Over the last 6 weeks, the Alamogordo community and most especially residents of the inner city areas of the city are concerned and seeking answers and a reassurance of safety with a recent rash of in home stabbings that have occured. On June 1st, 2024 the Alamogordo police were called to the 800 Block of 2nd Street to find a deceased individual with an apparent stab wound in his house. The deceased was Severe Scott Bowman (Scotty) age 65. An ongoing investigation is underway by the Alamogordo Police Department with assistance from investigators from the 12th Judicial District. Police reports released to AlamogordoTownNews.org show a significant number of interviews have been conducted and suspects are being identified and yet as of today no arrest has yet to be made.

And now yet another murder by stabbing has reportedly occured of a well known, fin loving eccentric man that was always full of joy to those around him. The most recent stabbing victim occured on August 15th, 2024. According to a response to an information request by the Alamogordo Police Public Affairs Department to the AlamogordoTownNews.org staff, The Lyman D. Hughes's incident which occurred on August 15, 2024 is still under investigation as a very active investigation and more information is not available at this time. According to secured records a person of interest has been identified and others are being interviewed as a part of the active investigation.

Local residents, neighbors, family and friends were shocked, yet again by this most recent stabbing event. Multiple emails and text were sent to our news outlets asking us to highlight and update information available to the public by the APD.

As further information becomes available via our information requests we will provide information all the whole being sensitive to the police investigation trying to solve these most recent murders.

Story update: since the release of our story, the 12th Judicial Major Crimes Unit is seeking assistance regarding a recent homicide case that occurred on August 15, 2024.
They are asking residents and business owners to review their video surveillance footage from August 15, 2024, between 7:00 AM and 12:00 PM, for a male subject.

This individual may have been walking eastbound in the area between 5th Street to 10th Street and North Florida Ave. to Washington Ave.

Any information or footage could be crucial to our investigation.
