Fighter Jet and the Gateway Monument proposed by Main Gate United of the Alamogordo Chamber of Commerce in partnership with the City of Alamogordo.

At the August 13, 2024 Alamogordo City Commission meeting commissioners and the public were presented more details of the Main Gate conceptualized version of the Fighter Jet and the Gateway Monument proposal. The Chamber is acting as a facilitator for the proposed project and at this point has begun fundraising but has not asked the city for any funding. The proposal was just to inform the city and ensure approval of the proposed site at Hwy 54 and 70.

The goal of the project is to help Alamogordo define its identity as a military town that is deeply inbeded with a history of flight due to its affiliation with Holloman Air Force Base and its proximity to testing at the White Sands Missle Range. The idea is it eould compliment the Space Center and lift off the history of the time when Alamogordo was known as "rocket city."

The centerpiece to the project is the F-4 Fighter Jet. There are many examples of the McDonnell Douglas F-4 Phantom IIs on display around the world, often in aviation museums and at facilities that once operated the McDonnell Douglas F-4 Phantom II.

The McDonnell Douglas F-4 Phantom II is an American tandem two-seat, twin-engine, all-weather, long-range supersonic jet interceptor and fighter-bomber originally developed by McDonnell Aircraft for the United States Navy. Proving highly adaptable, it entered service with the Navy in 1961 before it was adopted by the United States Marine Corps and the United States Air Force, and by the mid-1960s it had become a major part of their air arms. Phantom production ran from 1958 to 1981 with a total of 5,195 aircraft built, making it the most produced American supersonic military aircraft in history, and cementing its position as a signature combat aircraft of the Cold War

During the commission meeting the commissioners were asked toConsider, And Act Upon, Resolution 2024-56, Approving The Location Of The City Of Alamogordo's F-4 Fighter Jet.  The motion passed.
