Alamogordo Tigers at the New Mexico High School Prep State Wrestling and Swimming Championships

The New Mexico Athletics and Activities Association is hosting its first two of five state high school winter sports state championship games or events this weekend.  

The NMAAA high school state swimming and diving championships are hosted at the prestigious Albuquerque Academy, and the state wrestling tournament, at the Rio Rancho Events Center, both run Friday and Saturday February 23rd and 24th, 2024.

Within the swimming and diving competition Alamogordo High School Tigers are represented in the Friday Swimming Day One Results for Alamogordo at the State Meet. Results included:

200 Medley Relay - 

15th place was Sonja Davis, Adelynn DeBoef, Arabella Rosales, Rachel Carmody with a time of 2:05.74 and qualified them for Saturday's Final.

200 Free Relay - 

11th place was Sonja Davis, Elisa Crabtree, Rachel Carmody, Arabella Rosales with a time of 1:51.34 qualifying them for Saturdays finals.

50 Free -

Arabella Rosales 11th with a time of 26.14 qualifying for the Saturday Finals

Sonja Davis 20th with a time of 26.70

100 Free - 

Sonja Davis 10th with a time of 57.47 qualifying for the Saturday Final.

100 Fly -

Arabella Rosales 23rd with a time of 1:04.64.

There are two team champions in each gender: the overall points leader, and also the small school program that scores the most points. Albuquerque Academy and Cottonwood Classical Prep are the defending girls state champions. Eldorado and Cottonwood Classical won boys state titles a year ago.

The High School State Wrestling Championship is in full press where Volcano Vista and Belen are defending wrestling state championships in boys Class 5A and 4A-1A, respectively. In 5A, the Hawks, along with Cleveland and La Cueva, are going to be teams to watch in Rio Rancho.

Volcano Vista's girls also are out to defend their 2023 crown.

There was two sessions Friday the first was at 10 a.m. (first round) and second at 2:30 p.m. (quarterfinals).

The Alamogordo Tigers sent a contingent. For Day two Saturday, Alysa Hinds is in the Semi Finals and Alex Gutierrez and Tres Hinson are in the blood round, if they win they will medal for Alamogordo.  Let's go Tigers!
