Alamogordo Goes Black & Gold for AHS Homecoming Week

ALAMOGORDO, N.M. — Alamogordo High School Homecoming Week kicks off Sept. 28, and Alamogordo Public Schools is asking the entire community to help turn the town Black & Gold through Oct. 3.

Residents are encouraged to decorate homes, storefronts and vehicles in school colors, and local businesses can request free marketing kits to join the celebration. Registration for Friday's Homecoming Parade is now open.

A full week of Tiger athletics

The district is urging fans to turn out all week long. Boys Soccer and Volleyball take the field Tuesday. On Wednesday, the Powder Fluff and Powder Puff games will raise money for the junior and senior classes, with tickets just $2 cash at the gate. Girls Soccer plays Thursday.

The week peaks Friday, Oct. 2, with the Homecoming Parade at 3 p.m., followed by the Homecoming football game against Mayfield at 7 p.m. at Tiger Stadium.

Season passes covering all sports at all levels are available now, and individual game tickets can be purchased on the APS website or through the Hometown Tickets app. Admission to regular-season events is free for APS staff, APS students and children 5 and under.

Alumni coming home

The classes of 1986, 1996 and 2006 are holding reunions during Homecoming Week, with plans that include attending Friday's game.

The district is also promoting its new Spotlight on Alumni program, which highlights AHS graduates making a difference, from local entrepreneurs to doctors, engineers and educators around the world. Graduates, or anyone who knows a Tiger doing great things, can share a story through a short online form in the newsletter. Questions can be sent to communications@alamogordoschools.org.

Tiger heads to Grand Canyon

Adding to the week's pride, AHS softball standout Khloe Lunar has committed to continue her career at Grand Canyon University. A pitcher, outfielder and first baseman, Lunar is known as a natural leader on a team that doesn't name an official captain. She said GCU's program, team culture, campus and proximity to her grandparents sealed the decision.

"Softball has taught me that the biggest part of the journey isn't where you play, but the people you become along the way," Lunar said.
