Alamogordo Public Schools New School Board Settling Scores and Costing Taxpayers Friday Special Session 6:30 pm
The new board members of the Alamogordo Public Schools are convening at 6:30 on Friday to discuss the potential discharge of Pamela Renteria as school superintendent.
Mrs. Renteria secured a one year contract from from the prior board to serve while the new board gets acclimated to their new role and while a nation search is conducted to find a permanent superintendent. Mrs. Renteria prior was deputy superintendent and the acting superintendent when Dr. Moore's employment with APS ended due to a lawsuit filed by Lorri Black and the Flickinger Center.
Since that lawsuit was filed there has been a consorted attack on the supervision of Alamogordo Public Schools and the school board. Three incumbents of the school board were voted out of office due to an attack campaign led by a group of individuals that are presenting that the needs of the students and staff are not represented by administration and the former board.
When one look deeper into the group one sees cronyism and conflicts of interests. Several of the individuals in question leading the campaign to disrupt the school system sought contracts with the system. They lost in the process thus have taken a stance of revenge against leadership.
The meeting Friday night per inside sources is to consider the removal of Pam Renteria as Superintendent. If the board opts to remove her from position, the system will still be liable to payout her contract. The liability and termination would be a clear abuse of power and safeguarding taxpayer dollars.
Inside sources suggest that the board is considering hiring former School Superintendent Jerrett Perry to the position. Mr. Perry left the system after proposing a controversial resolution that the ACLU was going to sue APS over and would have risked 100s of thousands of dollars in legal fees needlessly that should be funding student programs.
Mr. Perry came back to Alamogordo recently to lead the Center of Commerce. The center has struggled under his leadership with several businesses dropping memberships due to the political agendas and attacks on the school system being led by Center of Commerce leadership. Additionally the Christmas Parade fiasco of an announcement of it not happening and then a scramble to make it happen did not reflect well on him as a new leader. Some have speculated that he planned an interim role at the Center of Commerce all along and that the election of the three new school board members set the stage for him to be reappointed. This would be a clear cut quid pro quo in nominating him to replace Renteria if indeed there is truth to that dialog.
The school board meeting is meeting at 6:30 Friday. The public is encouraged to join to witness what is sure to be a political showdown. The new school board must ensure transparency and openness in its decision making. Alamogordo is too small of a community to allow for political theater and cronyism playing with the future of the children of Alamogordo and of Holloman.
