Matthew Vega and Dominic De La O facing additional charges

On Tuesday, January 11, 2022, Officers with the Alamogordo Police Department responded to the 1500 block of Pinon Avenue in reference to a shooting. Upon arrival, Officers learned one of the victims was transported by a family member to Gerald Champion Regional Medical Center (GCRMC) suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. This victim was later transported to a hospital in El Paso, Texas. Matthew Vega and Dominic De Le O were identified as potential suspects of the shooting.

On January 17, 2022, Officers with the Alamogordo Police Department were dispatched to the 1300 block of Canal in reference to two male subjects with firearms. When the Officers arrived on scene, they only located Matthew Vega. During this investigation, Officers located and seized a handgun.

On January 18, 2022, investigators contacted Dominic De La O at a residence in the 1900 block of Bellamah Avenue. Pursuant to a search warrant, investigators located and seized a handgun.

On November 28, 2023, after a lengthy investigation, and after receiving the results of crime laboratory testing, Matthew Vega and Dominic De La O have been charged with the following:

Matthew Vega, 32 years of age, of Alamogordo, NM is being charged with the following crimes:

- Shooting at or From a Motor Vehicle (Great Bodily Harm), a 2nd degree felony OR IN THE ALTERNATIVE Aggravated Battery Use of a Deadly Weapon (Firearm) Great Bodily Harm, a 3rd degree felony.

- Shooting at or From a Motor Vehicle, a 3rd degree felony OR IN THE ALTERNATIVE Aggravated Battery Use of a Deadly Weapon (Firearm), a 3rd degree felony.

- Conspiracy to Commit Aggravated Battery Use of a Deadly Weapon (Great Bodily Harm), a 4th degree felony.

- Possession of a Firearm by a felon, a 4th degree felony.

Dominic De La O, 26 years of age, of Alamogordo, NM is being charged with the

following crimes:

- Shooting at or From a Motor Vehicle (Great Bodily Harm), a 2nd degree felony OR IN THE ALTERNATIVE Aggravated Battery Use of a Deadly Weapon (Firearm) Great Bodily Harm, a 3rd degree felony.

- Shooting at or From a Motor Vehicle, a 3rd degree felony OR IN THE ALTERNATIVE Aggravated Battery Use of a Deadly Weapon (Firearm), a 3rd degree felony.

- Tampering with Evidence, a 3rd degree felony.

- Receiving and or Retaining Stolen Property (Firearm), a 4th degree felony.

- Conspiracy to Commit Aggravated Battery Use of a Deadly Weapon (Great Bodily Harm), a 4th degree felony.

This case was investigated by the 12th Judicial Major Crimes Unit Comprised of Investigators with the 12th Judicial District Attorney’s Office, Alamogordo Police Department, Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, Otero County Sheriff’s Office, and the Ruidoso Police Department.
