The New Mexico Athletics and Activities Association has to balance the interests between of kids, with health, staffing stability, the level of interest and potential involvement and the reality of budgets and facilities into considerations for sanctioning high school sports. Recently two issues came up for expansion or consideration which died in the process.
Recently wrangling happened within the NMAA ranks when a group of about 20 schools, mostly from Albuquerque Public Schools, requested boys’ volleyball be added to the activity category under the NMAA umbrella.
The process for approval must go through three steps, starting with a minimum of 10 percent of the NMAA membership showing interest.
The boys’ volleyball proposal passed the first step, a 9-6 vote in favor by what’s called the commission. However, the proposal died during the second phase when no one on the NMAA board of directors made a second to the motion.
Ultimately, a vote encompassing the entire membership, the third hurdle, would decide the fate of a potential sport or activity butbit won't get that far this year.
Nationally, girls’ flag football is gaining traction, an effort spearheaded by the National Football League to cultivate interest in football among women and girls.
There are several state associations across the country that are now sanctioning girls flag football as a sport, and others are considering it.
One of the positives of girls’ flag football is that the NFL would financially help get programs started. However, that financial commitment and guidance from the NFL may not be long term
Where administrators are concerned is what happens when that pool (of money) from the NFL runs out? Then they’d have to figure out how to sustain it with taxpayer funds and school budgets.
Thus far no votes have pushed that sports forward but as more surrounding states add it to the roster New Mexico will be forced to consider. Stay tuned...
Looks like her campaign will be generating a few skid marks in it's attempt to gain traction.
Sunny, with a high of 93 and low of 66 degrees. Sunny in the morning, clear overnight.
Another great Maryland dad.
the saddest part of this story is that we will punish the guy who was hired to do the smuggling - instead of the person(s) who PAID him to do so.
They're catching the ring leaders as well, slowly but surely.
But I'd be interested to know what industries you think might be willing to pay $15k - $20k per person for unskilled labor that they're also at risk of losing to deportation, before getting a single days work out of them?
an extremely sad situation, in which one person was scared, and the other was killed - it is very difficult to imagine reconciling those two facts.
That wasn't fear. That was an extreme over kill... it is sad. And even sadder that anyone could possibly make any excuses for a piece of filth thinking he is above the law because he wears a badge... in fact to even come to that conclusion is sickening... shame on you.
by no means do i think - nor did i say - that the deputy is, somehow, above the law. my comment was simply observing that because he could not control his emotions, an innocent human being is dead...
and that is very sad situation.
I haven't seen MLG this upset since that girl dropped a house on her sister 90 years ago.
She neglects to mention that Democrats, including all 3 of our representatives, and both Senators, voted for a 68% tax hike.
All of them voted against expanded compensation for down winders.
tell us about this 68% tax hike, the clip doesn't mention anything about that - or is that something else that pam bondi has been sending you information regarding?
I keep forgetting that that information was classified Top Secret.
