The Alamogordo Community came together, and yes indeed, everyone throughout Southern New Mexico heard “ “the return of the roar” this week of Alamogordo High School Homecoming 2023.
The week began with a series of events each day celebrating the Tiger community. Thursday’s bonfire was a celebration steeped in tradition.
Friday school got out early and then a Homecoming parade with wonderful floats and community participants.
Then Friday was the night of the big game, and the unveiling of a facelift to the stadium with permanent naming of the Bob Sepulveda Track at Tiger Stadium.
The stadium now pays tribute to the one football state title and the three years as runner up at the state championship.
The stadium facelift now showcases the track and field state titles to include the 5 girls state titles beginning in 1982 which was coached by Marilyn Sepulveda to the most recent ones won by Coach Jason Adkinson. Also featured are the 7 boys titles with the first won by Coach Rolla Buck in 1951, 5 won by Coach Bob Sepulveda and 1 by Coach Joe Bryant in 2007.
The stadium began to fill around 6 pm for kickoff at 7 pm. Acting School Superintendent, Pamela Renteria along with Deputy Superintendent of Operations, Colleen Tagle was there to support the students, as was Alamogordo District 5 City Commissioner Sharon McDonald Class of 1967, her sister class of 1971 and former NFL football player Ed McDonald class of 67. Alumni from across the decades filled the stands.
And the game began…
Alamogordo defeated Gadsden 7 to 0. The game was scoreless after the first quarter. The game remained scoreless going into the halftime. The halftime show hosted the great music of the band and the crowning of the Homecoming King and Queen. The game then continued ending the third quarter scoreless. Anthony Audette brought home the victory with a 2 yard touchdown pass and Aidan Vazquez punt was good.
Alamogordo held the score Gadsden 7 to 0 with 7:28 to go and held it to the end.
