Otero Arts will host its latest exhibition “The Two Anns,” on Friday, Sept. 1, 2023, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Otero Artspace in the historic Women’s Club Building at 1118 Indiana Ave. (12th and Indiana) in Alamogordo, NM.
The public is invited for free to view works of art by Ann Bagby and Ann Beacht, two dedicated educators-‐turned-‐painters, and Otero County residents.
Otero Arts will exhibit “The Two Anns” at the Women’s Building gallery throughout the month of September, Thursday through Sunday from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m.
Ann Bagby is a figurative, narrative painter and colorist working primarily with oil paint, pastels, and salvaged materials. While Ann says she likes her subjects to be immediately recognizable, she believes they can be altered or manipulated to achieve or reinforce a particular effect. She says she is inspired to paint from real and invented subjects, and autobiographical situations.
Ann Beacht made the conscious decision to learn how to paint after she retired from a career in education. The impressionistic painter and former Artists’ Guild of Southern New Mexico member says she paints for herself, and the only way to become a confident painter is to paint a lot. “There are no magic brushes or techniques to use— no short cuts—that will take the place of putting miles on your brushes,” she says.
