Candlelight Vigil Tonight and Officer Ferguson Funeral Thursday

Alamogordo City Hall and City Departments will close early on Thursday out of respect for the funeral services of fallen Officer Anthony Ferguson. In a press release from the city it is noted:

“We want to inform you of an important announcement regarding the closure of City Hall on Thursday, July 20th, 2023, in honor of Officer Anthony Ferguson and to allow our employees to pay their respects during this time.

City Hall will be closed from noon until 5 o'clock in the evening. We understand the significance of this occasion and the need for our employees to have the opportunity to honor Officer Ferguson without interruption.

During this period, city services will be limited throughout the entire Alamogordo community. We kindly ask for your understanding and patience as we prioritize paying tribute to Officer Ferguson and supporting his family, friends, and colleagues during their time of grief.”

The Alamogordo Police Department is inviting the community to a fallen officer’s funeral services on Thursday. Officer Anthony Ferguson will be laid to rest at 2 p.m. at the Tays Special Events Center on 2400 N. Scenic Drive.

Parking space at the center will be limited, but Alamogordo PD is encouraging attendees to find parking on the NMSU-A campus across the center. For those unable to attend the service in person, the funeral will be live-streamed.

Officer Ferguson died Sunday night after getting shot by a suspect during a foot pursuit. He is survived by his daughter, son, mother, father, and four brothers.

From the city of Alamogordo the official press release reads…

“Alamogordo community, please join us at 2 PM on July 20th, 2023, as we come together to honor and pay our respects to Officer Anthony Ferguson for his funeral services. The service will be held at the Tays Special Events Center, located at 2400 N Scenic Drive.

Please be advised that there will be limited parking available at the Tays Special Events Center parking lot for the tribute service for Officer Ferguson. Overflow parking can be used at the NMSU-A campus across from the Tays Special Events Center.

For those unable to attend the service in person, the funeral will be live streamed by the KRQE news station. This will allow you to participate and join us in honoring Officer Ferguson remotely. We are grateful for the support and unity of our community, near and far.”
