In Memory of Sandra Lynne Countryman née Tannen
Sandra Lynne Countryman née Tannen, 75, passed away at home in Carlsbad, New Mexico on January 2, 2026. Sandi was born Sandra Tannen in Monticello, Iowa on December 9, 1950.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Jerome and Betty Tannen née Clark. She is survived by her husband, Sherman Countryman; her daughter Jolene Farley and partner Anthony Story; her siblings and their children, Michael Tannen and partner Rosemarie Ardire, Dennis Tannen and partner Janice Tannen, and Bea Dornon née Tannen and partner Bryan Dornon; her stepchildren John Farley Jr., Leona Miller née Countryman, Alice Countryman, Judy Nunez née Countryman, Donna King née Countryman, Tamatha Witt née Countryman, and Teresa Sierra née Countryman along with their partners and children; and a multitude of other family and friends who love her dearly.
Sandi was born in Iowa but spent her childhood moving around as part of a military family, eventually settling in California, where she graduated from Chaffey High School. She attended Cal State Fullerton and graduated with a bachelor's and a master's degree in psychology from National University.
She worked primarily as an HR Director but explored other work throughout her career, including city management and substitute teaching. Work and family took her around the U.S., but she spent the majority of her life in Southern California. She moved to New Mexico to work for the City of Artesia in 2015, where she later met Sherman. They married on July 1, 2017. At the time of death, she worked for the City of Carlsbad. She split her time between Carlsbad and Boles Acres.
Sandi was a vibrant woman known for her humor, playfulness, and engaging personality. She was a great listener and readily gave advice when asked. She loved to keep busy and worked side businesses selling products at fairs and conventions. Her hobbies included sewing, shopping, dancing, cooking, baking, and traveling.
She is deeply loved and missed by all who knew her and we will carry her memory in our hearts forever.
