In Memory of Douglas Ray Blake

Douglas Ray Blake, 69, passed away peacefully on the evening of May 17, 2024, after a short but hard-fought battle with cancer. Doug was a loving and much-loved husband, father, grandad, and friend.

Doug was born in Glendive, MT on October 1, 1954, to Sherman (Jim) and Zona Blake. As a child, the family moved to New Mexico and eventually landed in Alamogordo. Doug loved working on old cars, especially Chevys. During his life, he rebuilt several cars and pickups. His most prized build was his '59 white and cherry red Corvette.

As a young adult, Doug started working in the moving industry. At 21, he began driving his own truck for various moving companies. This led him to his love for the open road and thus began a 44-year career in trucking. He loved driving his truck.

Doug and his wife, Linda, attended high school together and started dating in 1989. They spent 15 years together before tying the knot on November 5, 2005. Graciously, Doug took on Linda's daughter, Kendra, as his own from the start. They share one child together, James Taylor Blake. Doug was ecstatic to become a dad and loved his son with his whole heart. Each time he had to leave for work, it was hard on Doug to leave his "baby boy" behind. Doug became a granddad in September 2006 with the birth of Aubriana Joyce. He did not take the role lightly and loved being a granddad. Then, again in January 2011, Baylynn Gayle came along. Doug loved his grand babies immensely, and they thought the world of him. When Kendra married her husband, Kevin Bednorz, Doug again became a granddad to an amazing 12-year-old boy, Hunter Bednorz.

Doug is preceded in death by his brother, Jerry; mother, Zona; father, Jim; father-in-law, H. Ray Black; nephew, Joe Romo. He leaves behind his loving wife, Linda; son, James Taylor; daughter, Kendra (Kevin) Bednorz; grandkids, Aubriana and Baylynn Cox, Hunter Bednorz; mother-in-law, Donna Milburn; sisters, Janice Blake and Lois (Rafa) Nora. He also leaves his best friends, David Romo and Ruben Romo. He will be greatly missed by numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

Services will be held at Mountain View Church, located at 1300 Cuba Ave. in Alamogordo on Wednesday, June 5, 2024, at 2:00 pm with fellowship to follow. Please join us in celebration of Doug's life.

In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Doug's name to Mountain View Church. Thank you to Pastor Anthony Torres for leading Doug to

Jesus.

The Blake family has entrusted their loved one to the care of Alamogordo Funeral Home.
