It’s a small town so why are you speeding, running stop signs and think it’s appropriate to almost run over people crossing 10th Street. Healthy living means getting out, walking and enjoying the outdoors but at what risk when drivers want to run you down.
Does New Mexico teach drivers how to stop for pedestrians?
“When traffic-control signals are not in place or not in operation, the driver of a vehicle shall yield the right of way, slowing down or stopping if need be to so yield, to a pedestrian crossing the roadway within a crosswalk when the pedestrian is in the crosswalk.”
New Mexico Statutes Section 66-7-334
To the elected officials what’s it going to take to slow down traffic and teach drivers to monitor the 10th street pedestrian crossings. It is embarrassing that there are 5 to 6 officers daily standing outside the courthouse and yet no one pays any attention to the many pedestrians almost hit at 10th and New York and near Lowes and near Albertsons. There are three primary pedestrian crossways on 10th Street and the police don’t help safeguard them and locals seem to care less for those healthy walkers.
Please slow down and give pedestrians respect imagine if it was your son, daughter, brother, sister, wife or husband attempting to cross that busy street. Wouldn’t you show them the respect to cross the street? Or would you?
