Commissioner Payne’s statement of support of the Floyd School district passed in a 5 to 2 vote at the Commissioners Meeting on Tuesday evening.
Refusing to allow a letter of protest to be read into the record, Commissioner Payne argued that the PED exercising power granted to it by the state legislature is overreach and though Floyd is just 100 people it was Alamogordo City Commissions place to make a statement.
Ms. Payne prevailed in her argument with Commissioners Sikes and McDonald opposed to the city of Alamogordo making a statement specific to the Floyd issue.
In other actions the city approved 5 capital projects, approved the donation of 17,000 for a tennis pavilion and approved funding for community outreach programs by the police.
Additionally there was debate on allowing Medlin Ramps sell 3.5 to 5 acres for s gas station project. It was determined they are in full compliance with jobs versed tax rebates and the City approved by the sale 7 to 0.
Marijuana was again a subject of discussion and the city amended ordinances to match alcohol sales in relation to zoning and will review the impact in a year if need by per Commissioner Rordin.
