The 2026 National Technology Student Association (TSA) Conference concluded on June 26 at the Gaylord National Resort & Convention Center in National Harbor, Maryland—just outside Washington, D.C. The event drew approximately 10,000 STEM students from across the United States and around the world, who competed in roughly 40 high school and middle school competitive events. Attendees engaged in leadership development, networking, workshops, and high-stakes competitions aligned with the TSA motto, “Learning to Lead in a Technical World.”
Cloudcroft High School’s TSA chapter made history by breaking a new chapter record with two placements at the national level. Junior Paula Finch earned an impressive 11th place in Promotional Design. Meanwhile, the Senior Solar Sprint team—composed of Xander Newton, Gena Davis, Chris Yousif, and Jadon Myers—advanced as top 10 finalists. As finalists, the team took the stage during the awards ceremony, earning a national shoutout for Cloudcroft High School. Exact placements for the Solar Sprint team will be announced when full scores are released in the coming weeks.
Senior Solar Sprint challenges teams to design, build, and race solar-powered model cars, combining engineering, creativity, and performance testing through time trials and elimination rounds. The top 10 finalists are recognized on stage

In addition to their competitive successes, Cloudcroft students demonstrated leadership by stepping into state-level roles. Paula Finch and Parker Muncy were inducted as the new New Mexico TSA State Vice President and Treasurer, respectively. Parker was inducted by outgoing NM State TSA Treasurer and Cloudcroft High School Valedictorian Sage Greenwood.
Cloudcroft TSA’s strong showing builds on their success at the 2026 New Mexico TSA State Leadership Conference, where the chapter excelled in multiple events and qualified for nationals. The group’s achievements highlight the dedication of students, advisors, and the broader Cloudcroft Municipal Schools community in fostering STEM excellence in a small-town setting.

TSA programs emphasize real-world skills in areas like engineering, design, leadership, and problem-solving. Participants often go on to pursue careers in technical fields, with the national conference serving as a capstone experience that combines competition with professional networking near the nation’s capital.
Congratulations to all Cloudcroft High School TSA members and the broader New Mexico delegation for their outstanding representation! When you see these talented Bears out in the community, take a moment to ask them about their projects, experiences in D.C., and future plans. Their success inspires pride across Otero County and beyond.
