A 24-year-old motorcyclist was killed late Friday night after being struck from behind on northbound Interstate 25 near Comanche Road, according to the New Mexico State Police.
The crash occurred at approximately 11:54 p.m. on June 6, 2026. The Albuquerque Police Department initially responded and requested that the New Mexico State Police assume the investigation into the fatal collision involving a motorcycle and a passenger vehicle.
Upon arrival, officers found civilians rendering aid to the motorcyclist, identified as Keegan Thomas, 24. Emergency medical personnel transported Thomas to a local hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
During the investigation, witnesses who had stopped at the scene directed officers to a 2013 BMW with significant driver-side damage matching that observed on the motorcycle. The driver of the BMW was identified as Danny Sanchez, 58.
Preliminary findings indicate both vehicles were traveling northbound on I-25 when the BMW struck the rear of the motorcycle. The impact ejected Thomas from his motorcycle. Sanchez continued driving until he realized his vehicle was inoperable and pulled over on the right shoulder.
Sanchez was arrested and charged with homicide by vehicle, aggravated DWI, and careless driving. Alcohol is believed to have been a contributing factor in the crash.
The New Mexico State Police Vehicular Crimes Unit is assisting with the ongoing investigation.
This is a developing story. Additional details will be released as they become available.

the smartest maintenance expenditures are spent looking to the future, not repairing the past. kudos for the forward thinking/planning, hope it bears fruit.
Amazing, airport is budgeting time and expense into a project that will likely never materialize. This was attempted before. No airline or charter service would commit to Alamogordo service. The airport needs letter of commitment before spending more money.
Hmm. Elected city officials making comments “as a private citizen”. A trend that started with former city officials here and is reminiscent of lawsuits going on in Los Angeles right now.
While Mr. Stockwell may hit the ground running, why is the public not asking how complicit he was in the tainted hiring process? He is a past city manager; he knows about hiring protocols. Why didn't he ask the commission to be transparent?
