A Night of Rhythm, Remembrance, and Renewal: Alamogordo Honors Its Heroes

On this warm Saturday evening in Alamogordo, New Mexico, two powerful community experiences are uniting hearts, hands, and spirits in honor of our military service members.

The day begins at Otero Artspace (12th and Indiana) from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM with Community Music Circles. Families are invited to bring the kids, bring a drum or any other instrument, or simply use the ones provided. Under the creative guidance of local artists and musicians, participants will gather in a welcoming circle to create live music together. The air will fill with the heartbeat of drums, the energy of collective rhythm, and the shared pride of honoring those who have served.

A bright red drum with a Zia symbol sits ready, waiting for hands both young and old. This is more than a performance — it’s a living tribute, a space where community comes together to say “thank you” through the universal language of music.

Then, as the sun sets, the celebration moves to the beautiful Trinity Turtle Healing Labyrinth Park at 7440 US Hwy 54 for the 7:30 PM to 9:00 PM event. The magnificent illuminated labyrinth, glowing with thousands of lights in the desert night, will open its sacred paths for walking, reflection, and healing.

This glowing spiral of light becomes a place of peace and gratitude — a space where people can walk in silence or quiet conversation, honoring the sacrifices of our military members while finding personal renewal. The labyrinth has long been a site of healing in Alamogordo, and tonight it shines especially bright in their honor.

Whether you come for the drumming and laughter at Otero Artspace or the quiet, luminous beauty of the labyrinth at Trinity Turtle, tonight is about connection — to our veterans, to each other, and to the deep rhythms of life and gratitude that bind us all.
